Skull & Crosses
So here’s the thing, I’ve noticed that things like
skulls, crosses, studs, biker jackets etc. have become a massive fashion
icon. Basically, it’s now cool to flaunt the rock image and to be
honest, I’m hoping it fades.
I first noticed this look when I went shopping in H&M a year ago
and on a poster behind the counter, a young model was wearing tartan
skinny jeans with creepers, black nail varnish and a music top. Now,
about three years ago, if a girl walked about wearing that, they’d be
called ‘emo’ and would be picked on for being alternative and well,
different.
It’s like when the ‘geek’ image took phase, suddenly it’s
hip to dress how your common geek would, yet three years ago or more,
you would have got picked on for it.
I went into primark for the first time in years last week &
literally, everywhere I saw ‘alternative’ clothing for sale. But I
guess, now it’s okay to dress like that ‘cause it’s the new fashion
trend.
The only thing I like about this, is now people are more
accepting of the alternative so those who do consider themselves
‘alternative’ can walk about, feeling more free and they wont get stared
at as much, the only trouble is, nearly every youth looks the same,
there’s not much individuality going on.
But please, if you’re going to wear a Ramones top which you bought
from topshop, you should listen to their music instead of just wearing
it to fit in, so next time somebody asks you what’s your favourite
Ramones song? You can stray away from the generic and popular answer
which is Blitzkreig Bop.
